During a routine inspection

One person agreed to speak with us about their experiences of the service. Our conversation with them demonstrated that they were well informed about the support they received and they had been involved in decision-making regarding their care. We reviewed three people's records and saw that consent had been obtained for care.

The staff we spoke with demonstrated good knowledge of each person's needs and how best to support them. This included how to manage more challenging behaviours. Risk assessments and care plans had been reviewed and updated regularly. Where advice and support from health care specialists was needed, this had been obtained in a timely and consistent manner.

The provider had up-to-date safeguarding and whistleblowing policies in place. All staff had completed safeguarding training at a level appropriate for their role. Staff demonstrated that they understood their role in protecting the people they supported. We observed that staff interacted with people in a supportive and friendly way and they had the skills to meet people's needs. All of the staff we spoke with were experienced and had worked at the service for a number of years. The one person we spoke with said about staff; 'I wouldn't be without them, they are so beautiful'.

The one person we spoke with said they would recommend the service to others. Staff told us they felt able to voice their opinions and they felt the service was well run.

During a routine inspection

Not all of the people using the service was supporting were receiving the regulated activity of personal care. On the day of the inspection the majority of people were at a day centre. We spoke with one person and they told us they were happy living at the service and the staff treated them well. They told us how the staff assisted them to lead an independent life.

We spoke to three members of staff who told us it was a good place to work and they felt well supported by each other and by the management team.

We found people's care records reflected their needs and they were included in their care planning and risk assessment process. People had access to external health and social professionals.

A safe system was in place for the management of people's medication.

The service had systems in place to monitor and review the services they provided to people.
