During a routine inspection

When we visited Cameo Rest Home, there were seven people living there. Most of the people had mild levels of dementia. There were nine members of staff, including the owner who was the registered manager and regularly worked alongside the care workers.

We saw that people were treated with kindness and respect. The people who talked with us about their care said they were well-cared for. The relatives of two people told us they could not fault the care at Cameo Rest Home. One relative told us that the person they were visiting received: 'Very, very good care. (They) are settled and always happy to return to Cameo after a day out. It's (their) home.' Another relative said: 'We couldn't have found a better place. It's like a family home. It's always calm and relaxed.'

We saw that care plans were personalised and contained enough information to provide guidance for care workers. We saw evidence that staff had developed positive working relationships with local health professionals. We saw that people were given their medicines in a safe way.

We raised some concerns about staff records, which lacked recording and risk assessments related to recruitment and induction.

During a routine inspection

When we visited Cameo Rest Home, five people were living there. Some of the people had dementia. When we spoke with people, not every person could express how they felt about their care. We observed that people appeared relaxed and comfortable in their home. One person told us, 'I could not be better cared for anywhere'.

We saw that people were treated kindly and respectfully. We observed that when people could make choices about their care, they were encouraged to do so. We found that care plans included person-centred needs assessments and individual risk assessments. Care was planned and delivered to meet people's needs. We found confirmation of this when we read the daily records about people's progress. One person told us they were well-cared for and this was confirmed when we read written comments made by people's relatives.

We found that staff were well-trained and well-supported in their work. We found no evidence of any safeguarding concerns about the people who lived at Cameo Rest Home.

The service owner and manager had established systems to assess and monitor the quality of care provided and to ensure the safety and well-being of people.
