12 March 2014

During an inspection looking at part of the service

There were six people living at the home at the time of our inspection. We spoke with two people, one staff member and the manager.

At our previous inspection on 14 November 2013, we found shortfalls with the medication systems in place. The manager sent us an action plan which demonstrated that the required improvements would be made.

This inspection was carried out to see what action had been taken to ensure that people were appropriately supported to take their prescribed medicines. We found that improvements had been made in relation to the medication systems in the home which ensured safe practices were followed.

14 November 2013

During a routine inspection

There were six people living at the home at the time of our inspection. We spoke with six people, two staff, and the manager and provider. We also observed how people were being supported.

People we spoke with told us they liked living at this home. One person said, 'I am happy here.' Another person said, 'I am fine here it is good.'

We found that systems were in place to ensure people's consent was always obtained before any support was provided.

We saw that people's needs were assessed, and support plans were developed in consultation with people. Staff spoken with were able to tell us about people's needs. This ensured they received support in a way they preferred.

We found that improvements were required to the medication systems to ensure safe practices were followed.

People were supported by staff that received regular training opportunities to ensure they had the skills to meet people's needs.

There was a complaints procedure in place to enable people to share their concerns.

6 December 2012

During a routine inspection

When we arrived the people who lived at Shervale were getting ready to go out. They told us they were going to the centre and going swimming.

We were shown around the house by a member of the care staff. The house was well furnished and the decor was well kept. Everyone had their own rooms which which we were told had been decorated and furnished to suit peoples interests or preferences. All the rooms were all tidy and clean. All the bedrooms had en-suite facilities.

The care worker told us that most people could undertake their own personal care with a little prompting while others need more help. Some people enjoyed helping around the house, keeping their rooms tidy and helped with cooking

The care worker told us that she had been at Shervale for two years and very much enjoyed her work, the way the people were supported and the contribution she could make to this.
