A relative told us, “[Staff] are very professional. They ask [person] what they need and are very patient as well.”

The provider issued an annual survey for feedback. We saw a person had commented, “Staff are always caring and respectful.”

Treating people as individuals

Score: 3

The provider treated people as individuals and made sure people’s care, support and treatment met people’s needs and preferences. They took account of people’s strengths, abilities, aspirations, culture and unique backgrounds and protected characteristics.

The provider was able to adapt visit times on days where people liked to attend religious services.

Independence, choice and control

Score: 3

The provider promoted people’s independence, so people knew their rights and had choice and control over their own care, treatment and wellbeing.

People’s care plans included what they were able to do for themselves. People and relatives confirmed staff supported them to maintain their independence. A relative said, “My [relative] is struggling with this and doesn’t want to lose their independence so getting someone to look after that is very important to us – they let [person] do stuff that [person] wants to do for themself if they can.”

Responding to people’s immediate needs

Score: 3

The provider listened to and understood people’s needs, views and wishes. Staff responded to people’s needs in the moment and acted to minimise any discomfort, concern or distress.

People told us they felt staff would be responsive to their needs if they became distressed. A relative said, “They accommodate [person’s] needs.” A person said,” I’ve not been in that situation, but I think they would.”

Workforce wellbeing and enablement

Score: 3

The provider cared about and promoted the wellbeing of their staff and supported and enabled staff to always deliver person-centred care.

The registered manager provided supervision every 3 months and gave an example of supporting staff to develop. We saw supervision records included prompts for staff goals and achievements, and training had been provided where requested.

A staff member who may need to take time off at short notice was supported with this. The registered manager said, “Staff can call me any time if they are stressed or if they need anything…It’s a small team and we work together.”
