Our view of the service
Date of assessment: 15 May to 22 May 2025.
Chase Lodge is a care home which is registered to provide accommodation, personal care and support to adults of all ages who may have mental health needs. The service is also registered to provide support to people with learning disabilities or autistic people. At the time of our assessment, this was not a primary need of anyone who lived at the service.
We carried out this assessment to review actions taken by the provider following our last assessment. The previous report was published in September 2024. At that time, the service was rated requires improvement in the safe and well led key questions, and overall. There were breaches of regulations 12 and 17 relating to safe care and treatment and good governance.
At this assessment, we reviewed 4 quality statements under the safe and well led key questions – learning culture; safe and effective staffing; medicines optimisation and good governance. We found improvements had been made and the provider was no longer in breach of regulations. The rating for the safe and well led key questions have changed to good. The ratings for the quality statements we did not assess remain unchanged. This means the overall rating for the service has changed to good.
Improvements had been made to ensure medicines were safely managed and standards were monitored. There was more effective recording, administration and checks of people’s medicines. When there were incidents or errors, there were clear procedures to report, investigate and analyse these. The registered manager communicated clearly, and information was shared with other agencies and staff. More permanent staff had been recruited to work at Chase Lodge. This meant people received better care from a staff team who knew them well.
People's experience of this service
People were very positive about the service they received and the staff who worked with them. One person told us, “The staff are a blessing. They’ve changed my life”. People were happy that new staff had been recruited, and the staff team was now more stable. They told us staff knew them well. People felt able to approach staff and appeared comfortable living at the service. People were involved in managing aspects of their medicines where possible. There was a calm atmosphere when we visited Chase Lodge.
