During a routine inspection

We spoke with the person who lived at the service and observed the interactions when staff were supporting them. There was a relaxed atmosphere throughout our visit and the person was clearly at ease with staff being in their home.

Care records described the person's needs in detail. We saw that they contained detailed, person centred information for staff about how they liked to be supported.

Staff we met told us that they received regular training of a good quality. They felt the training enabled them to support the person living at the service to the best of their abilities.

The person in the service told us several times that they felt happy and safe. They laughed and joked throughout our visit and appeared very comfortable in our presence.

Staff said they received regular supervisions with the manager to enable them to raise any concerns they might have.

The manager took account of the views of others by the use of surveys and monitored the service in a number of ways.

During a routine inspection

We spoke with the person who lived at the home, with the support of staff, about their life at the home. We also observed the interaction between the staff and the person they supported. There was much laughter as staff gently encouraged the individual to make a drink for themselves and us, and to talk with us.

We looked at the person's care files and saw that they contained good information for staff on how the person liked to be supported. However, the provider may wish to note that there was limited information in the care files about how expressed aims and goals were to be achieved. They may also wish to note there was little information about the person's background which meant that staff might not be aware of events in the person's life that could impact on the care they provided.

Staff told us that they received regular training and supervision to enable them to discuss any concerns or training needs they might have. However, the provider may wish to note that staff told us that formal supervision sessions were not regular.

Staff who worked with the person told us about how they consulted with them regularly and adjusted routines and care as requested. The individual told us about their regular 'meetings'. These were specific times set aside for the individual to talk about their feelings or learn how to handle their money. We saw that they were also able to speak with staff about anything at any time.
