Score: 3

The provider had a proactive and positive culture of safety, based on openness and honesty. Staff listened to concerns about safety and investigated and reported safety events. Lessons were learnt to continually identify and embed good practice.

Staff generally understood how to report concerns. However, some staff felt learning and actions taken following concerns were not always visible. One member of staff told us,“Nothing appeared to be done” when concerns had been raised. There was no evidence that safety concerns raised about people using the service were being ignored.

Score: 3

People were supported to take positive risks while maintaining their independence. Risk assessments covered areas such as finances, medicines, community access and health needs. Staff encouraged people to make decisions about their lives, maintain community involvement and pursue activities that were important to them. However, records did not always reflect people's current needs or circumstances, and we found people had risk assessment that were not needed as part of their planned care. We were assured that people were receiving safe care from staff who knew them well.

The provider detected and controlled potential risks in the care environment. They made sure equipment, facilities and technology supported the delivery of safe care.

People lived in homes that were clean, personalised and generally well maintained. During our visits, people appeared comfortable in their environments and moved around safely.
