During a routine inspection

We spoke to seven members of staff who spoke positively and without prompt regarding local management, training and working conditions. We also spoke to all three people who lived there and found a happy, positive and supportive environment had been provided for them.

We spent time in the home observing people and staff and found evidence that people were treated as individuals and with respect. We also found evidence of this by reviewing documents such as essential lifestyle plans, activity plans and behaviour profiles. We viewed private rooms and the communal areas in the home and found a safe, inviting and friendly atmosphere throughout. There was a large, bright and airy communal lounge, a dining room and a garden that was available for people to use for activities.

We reviewed the complaints procedure with the registered manager and found that there were no ongoing complaints.

At the time of our inspection preparation was underway for a move of premises which was reflected in the training that staff had undertaken and in their work to assist people with the forthcoming transition.

During a routine inspection

We spoke with three people who lived at Lorne Terrace. They told us they were able to make their own choices and decisions about their lifestyle. People said the staff supported them with their preferred choice of individual activities in the community such as football matches and pub meals.

We saw there was a positive, friendly interaction between people and the staff. People told us they felt 'comfortable' and 'safe' at this home.

The provider had owned this house for many years. It was reasonably decorated and furnished. People said they were mainly satisfied with their accommodation. One person said, 'I'm very happy with my room, it's very comfortable and I've got all my things in it.'

We found the service made sure there were sufficient staff available to meet people's individual needs. People felt there were enough staff to support them. One person said, 'I am very happy here. I like all the staff and they help me go out all over.'

We saw a copy of the complaints procedure for people which was clear and easy to understand. People told us they could also raise any concerns with the manager or staff, and were confident that these would be looked into.
