Date of Assessment: 11 January and out of hours visit on 25th January 2026.

The service is a care home that can provide personal care for up to 8 people with a learning disability and/or autistic people. At the time of our assessment there were 3 people aged 50 and over living in the care home.

We have assessed the service against ‘Right support, right care, right culture’ guidance to make judgements about whether the provider guaranteed people with a learning disability and autistic people respect, equality, dignity, choices, independence and good access to local communities that most people take for granted.

The service had a good learning culture and people could raise concerns. People were protected and kept safe. The registered manager and staff understood and managed risks well. The facilities and equipment met the needs of people, were clean and well-maintained. There were enough experienced staff who understood their roles and responsibilities. The service supported staff and promoted their wellbeing. Staff managed medicines well.

People participated in assessments and decisions about the care they received. Staff reviewed assessments taking account of people’s communication, personal and health care needs. People had enough to eat and drink to stay healthy. Staff monitored people’s health to support healthy living. Staff made sure people understood their care and treatment to enable them to give informed consent.

People were treated with kindness and compassion. Staff protected people’s privacy and dignity. They treated people as individuals and supported their preferences. People had choice in their care and were encouraged to maintain relationships with family and friends. Staff responded to people’s needs in a timely way. The service provided people with information they could easily understand and access. People knew how to give feedback and were confident their view were taken seriously and acted upon. People received fair and equal care and the service worked to reduce health and care inequalities through training and feedback.

The registered manager/owner had a shared vision and culture based on listening, learning and trust. The registered manager collaborated with the local community to deliver the best possible care. There was a culture of continuous improvement.

People's experience of the service

Updated 6 February 2026

People told us they were happy and safe living at Acorn Residential Home. Relatives confirmed this and told us people were looked after well and received safe care and support. Typical comments included, “I like living here and I like the staff” and “This is a good place to live. I feel safe here. I like [name of staff member] who is my favourite”. Feedback we received from external community health and social care professionals was equally positive. They told us, “People who live at the care home present as happy, settled and well supported. They speak positively about where they live and appear comfortable and secure”, “We have not identified any areas of concern and I would say this care home is one of the best we work with” and “Staff look after the people who live in the care home very well and the care provided always appears person-centred, respectful and supportive”.

We observed staff treated people with kindness and compassion and the atmosphere remained relaxed and pleasant throughout our on-site visit.

People’s safety was prioritised and the registered manager and staff knew how to protect people from abuse or harm. People and their families were fully involved in planning their care and understood their rights. People said they received consistently good quality care from knowledgeable staff who treated them as individuals.

Some people could not directly tell us about their experiences of living in the care home, so we. observed the care provided by staff to assess whether it was good. This approach showed us people were listened to and staff consistently interacted positively with them.
