Independence, choice and control
The provider promoted people’s independence and choice, so people knew their rights and had control over their own care, treatment and wellbeing. Family members told us, “My [relative] is given choices to decide what he would like to do. He has been involved with choosing activities he likes and also choosing which trips he likes to go on. His independence is supported to the best of his ability” and “[Staff] have encouraged [my relative’s] independence in so far as she is able to do things independently.” We saw a staff member helping a person to put their hand on a jug so that they could pour a drink to themselves independently.
