During a routine inspection

We spoke with two out of the three people who use the service. One person told us they were very "happy" living at the home and that it was "good here". Another person said the staff team were "nice and kind". People said they enjoyed living at Helena House but were looking forward to moving into new premises in April 2013.

We found the provider met the outcomes we inspected and had systems in place to monitor their own compliance and performance. We found the service maintained patient's privacy and dignity whilst personal care was provided. Records showed us people were involved in their care and offered appropriate choices in relation to their care and support. Care provided was tailored to meet the specific needs of each individual and ensured their safety and welfare.

People who use the service experienced effective support in safe, accessible surroundings that promoted their wellbeing.

We found the staff felt supported by management and were offered appropriate training to enable them to meet the needs of people using the service.

People told us that they liked living at the home. They said that the staff were caring, kind and approachable. They said that they were fully involved in planning their care and were offered choices in relation to their everyday lives. People said that staff were good at supporting them to make decisions and helping them to try new things. People we spoke to said that there was plenty to do at the home and that they enjoyed living there.

We spoke to members of the local authority commissioning team. They told us that they were not aware of any concerns regarding the care and support provided to people that live at the home. No concerns had been raised with them for over a year.
