Our view of the service

Cherry Tree manor is a care home providing accommodation and personal care to a maximum of 58 people. This is a woman only service and at the time of the assessment there were 36 people living at the home.

The registered manager and staff were dedicated to providing care and support to people. As a team they were passionate about providing good care and ensuring people were happy living at the home.

At this assessment we identified medicines were not always managed safely, and risk assessments about specific health conditions did not always have enough information to provide staff with sufficient information to care for people. However, staff knew people well and had excellent knowledge to reduce the risk of harm. The local authority had recently carried out an assessment of care and had identified concerns, as a result the registered manager and the owner had developed an action plan, and they were starting to address the concerns identified.

The provider was working to implement a new care planning process, and the home was starting to embed a new process for managing accidents and incidents to ensure actions were recorded with sufficient detail.

The environment was well maintained and there was an ongoing programme of works scheduled to ensure the home was maintained to the best standard.

There were procedures to help make sure staff employed were suitable and had the skills and knowledge they needed. These included recruitment checks, regular training and supervision.

The culture within the service was a home away from home and people told us it felt like this. Overwhelmingly, staff and people spoke about the dedication shown by the registered manager to ensure people were enjoying living at the home.

People were supported to have maximum choice and control of their lives and staff supported them in the least restrictive way possible. People’s diversity was respected, and the team knew people well, if extra care or support was needed and when people’s needs changed this was done with compassion and kindness.

People's experience of this service

People and their relatives told us the staff were kind, caring and compassionate and overwhelmingly people were happy living at the home. People and their relatives said, they were happy with the care, one person said, “I think it’s a nice place, staff are helpful and I am not rushed. Staff are really kind and compassionate.”

There was a warm and welcoming atmosphere in the home, and we observed people being content and relaxed in people’s company.

The home was particularly well maintained. The registered manager and staff took pride in ensuring people’s rooms were decorated to their individual taste. The garden was accessible and the activities worker and people took great pride in ensuring it bloomed throughout the year. There was plenty of shaded areas for people to sit and there was a large fishpond which some people found soothing to look and sit and listen.

People told us the food was enjoyable, and the chef worked to their individual tastes and preferences.
