During an assessment under our new approach
Date of Assessment: 17 March to 23 March 2026.
The Grange is a residential care home providing care and support to older people. The home is registered to support up to 18 people, and at the time of the inspection 17 people were receiving care.
People told us they felt safe living at the service. There were enough staff to meet people’s needs, and staff were responsive and available when needed. Staff were safely recruited and received the training and support required to carry out their roles. People received their medicines as prescribed, and medicines were stored appropriately. People’s needs and risks were assessed, and care plans were in place to guide staff. Regular checks and maintenance of the premises and equipment were completed, and the provider responded promptly to areas for improvement we identified.
People’s needs were assessed, and their health and wellbeing were monitored. Staff contacted external professionals when additional support was needed. Staff worked well together and with external services. People’s weight was generally stable, and they were provided with sufficient food and drink. People were supported to attend appointments, including dental care when required.
People were supported by a consistent staff team who knew them well. Feedback from people indicated staff were kind and caring. People were encouraged to make choices about their daily lives, and independence was promoted whenever possible. Staff told us they felt valued by the provider.
People received personalised care that reflected their needs and preferences, although this was not always fully recorded within care plans. Staff supported people in planning for their future, and the service had received positive feedback about the care provided to people approaching the end of their life. People felt able to share ideas or raise concerns, and there were various processes in place to gather feedback. People were supported to access the services they needed, and staff helped protect people’s rights.
People and relatives spoke highly of the registered manager and found them approachable and responsive. The registered manager had good oversight of the service, although some assurance processes were not consistently recorded in an auditable format. Staff were positive about working at the service, felt well supported, and said they could raise concerns if needed.
