Inspection carried out on 13 December 2012

During a routine inspection

We spoke with eight people living at the home. Some people were not able to tell us directly what they thought about the service. However, during our visit we spent time observing how care staff supported people. We spoke with staff about a lady who came to the home during the day who did not speak English. They told us they had developed laminated cards to use to help communicate with the lady with pictures such as tea, coffee, milk etc and they were also sourcing a translation programme with the home�s computer so they could talk with the lady using this.

People were positive in their views about the home. They told us; �The staff here are lovely�.

We observed lunch in one of the dining rooms and saw staff spend time with people and they supported them with dignity and respect. There were sufficient staff on duty to support people with their care needs.

We saw the provider had a complaints process in place with records to show issues had been responded to in a timely way.

During a routine inspection

We spoke to eight people. Everyone we talked to spoke highly of the service. They said:

�There�s no restriction here, I can go out for a walk when I like, it�s not a prison�,

�We have a handyman who fixes everything�,

�My doctor is brilliant with me�,

�Ian controlled the heating in my room for me�,

�There is always someone popping round�,

�The staff are very good�,

�The cleaner is very thorough � my room is spotless�,

�I press my buzzer and they come straight away�,

�I chose to come to this home myself�,

�If I need a shower there is always someone with me�

�If I need any help you just ask�,

�Meals are good�,

�I can just go and ask for a cup of tea if I want one�,

�It�s not routine driven, it�s homely�,

�They are kind�,

�It is home, they are nice and friendly� and

�They will do anything to help you�.
