Our current view of the service

Good

Updated 30 July 2025

Date of assessment: 19 August 2025 to 25 August 2025. Community Places is a residential care home, providing support to younger adults, some of whom may be living with a learning disability and/or autism. The service can support up to 16 people, and at the time of our assessment 11 people were living at the service.

This assessment was carried out to follow up on a breach of regulations for safe care and treatment and good governance. Improvements were found at this assessment, and the provider was no longer in breach of these regulations. Evidence showed changes had been implemented, including strengthened leadership, updated systems, and improved outcomes for people using the service.

We have assessed the service against ‘Right support, right care, right culture’ guidance to make judgements about whether the provider guaranteed people with a learning disability and autistic people respect, equality, dignity, choices, independence and good access to local communities that most people take for granted. We found people received care and support in accordance with the principles of this guidance.

Right support: People were consistently protected and kept safe by staff who had an excellent understanding of risks. The care and setting maximised people’s choice, control and independence. People were involved in assessments of their needs. People were proactively supported to meet their own aims, ambitions and interests. People were given information in an accessible way to support choice and decision-making. Staff managed medicines well. Staff made sure people understood their care and treatment to enable them to give informed consent. Staff worked with all agencies involved in people’s care for the best outcomes.

Right care: Governance systems had improved and were effective in monitoring all areas of the service. Care was person-centred and promoted people’s dignity, privacy and human rights. Staff protected people’s dignity and treated people kindly and with respect. Staff told us they were valued and supported in their roles, including through specialist training, supervisions and team meetings. This helped them meet people’s needs.

Right culture: The ethos, values, attitudes and behaviours of leaders and care staff ensured people using services led confident, inclusive and empowered lives. There was a positive and open culture. Leaders worked well in partnership with other professionals to deliver good outcomes. Legal and regulatory requirements were met. Staff felt supported to give feedback, were treated equally, free from bullying or harassment. People knew how to give feedback or make complaints and were confident the service took it seriously and acted on it.
