All Inspections

2 March 2013

During a routine inspection

We spoke to six people who used the service and three visitors to the home, to seek their views of the service provided.

People told us they liked to live at Clovelly House and that the staff were kind and helpful. Comments made included 'it is excellent here, the food is good and my room is lovely', 'the staff are very kind and helpful' and 'I have no complaints at all, but if I did I would be able to speak with the staff and they would sort anything out for me'.

The visitors we spoke with were either visiting relatives or friends. They were satisfied with the care provided by the staff and each said their friend or relative was happy at the home.

People told us someone came to the home each week to provide a keep fit class. Other than that people were not able to tell us about activities that took place. One person commented 'it is very quiet here, not much happens' and another person said 'sometimes it can be a bit boring at times as there is not much to do'. This person added they were satisfied with everything else at Clovelly House.

We observed the home was clean, tidy and free from odours. People lived in a warm and comfortable home and appeared well looked after with clean and pressed clothes.

We found the systems in place regarding the administration and storage of medication did not fully protect people from the risks associated with medication.

During an inspection in response to concerns

People who use the service were able to talk to us about the care that they receive. One person told us that the staff are kind and caring. Another person said that the staff help them with everything they need and they have no grumbles about living here.

Another person told us that the staff are very kind and helpful with the exception of one person who wasn't as helpful as the rest. They had spoken to the registered provider about this and were confident the issue would be addressed.

A visitor to the home told us that the staff have all been lovely to their relative and are very kind and attentive to her. They also said that they are warm and welcoming to visitors coming into the home.

Another visitor agreed with this comment saying that they always had a very warm welcome and were able to visit at any time they liked.

People we spoke with who use the service were very complimentary about the food provided to them.

One person said that they were asked what they wanted for their meal the day before. They added that there was always a choice but sometimes they could not remember what they had chosen.

Another person said that the food at the home is very good and is always nice.

Another person said that the food was excellent and they never had a complaint about it.
