During a routine inspection

During the inspection we spoke with six people who used the service. We also spoke with the manager, house manager, two care staff and the cook. One person we spoke with told us, 'I like living here, I've been here nearly 20 years.' They also said, 'We have a holiday once a year, this year we went to York.' Another person told us, 'If 'outs' bothering me I go to staff and tell them.'

We found that people had their needs assessed and that care plans were in place. All the people we spoke with were very satisfied with the service they received and they were treated with dignity and respect by the staff.

People were provided with a choice of suitable and nutritious food and drink.

We found that a range of health and care professionals were involved in meeting people's needs.

We saw that people had the equipment they needed and that effective systems were in place to ensure it was safe to use.

Staff had received appropriate training and support in respect of their job roles.

There was a complaints procedure in place and this was accessible to people.

Records were accessible, stored securely where appropriate and kept up to date.

During a routine inspection

During the inspection we spoke with four people who used the service. We also spoke with the manager, house manager and two care staff. One person we spoke with told us, 'I like living here, the staff are really nice.' Another person told us 'I go out into town whenever I want.'

We found that people gave consent for different aspects of their care. People told us they were able to make their own day to day decisions and lifestyle choices.

We found that people had their needs assessed and care plans were in place. All the people we spoke with were very satisfied with the service they received and told us they were treated with dignity and respect by the staff.

There were appropriate arrangements in place for the recruitment of staff.

The environment was clean and well decorated and systems were in place to ensure maintenance was carried out when required.

The quality of the service was monitored and reviewed on a regular basis.

During a routine inspection

People spoken with during the inspection said that they were treated with respect and supported in making decisions.

Other comments included; "I have my own bus pass and I go out alone. I have a key worker who takes me out shopping for clothes. There's not much going on but I am happy and I like living here"; "I have been here a long time, I like it". "I could tell someone if I had a problem, I feel safe"; "The staff are alright, they are good staff here. They are interviewing for some new staff today" and "I get on well with the staff".
