We were greeted very warmly by the registered manager and staff, who were very keen to demonstrate the improvements they had made to the service.
We immediately noticed the calm and relaxed atmosphere in the home. People and staff greeted us in a warm and friendly fashion, and the home exuded an environment where all were welcome.
The provider was exceptional at treating people with kindness, empathy and compassion and in how they respected people’s privacy and dignity and this was apparent throughout our visit. Staff clearly knew people very well and we saw people were treated as individuals in a compassionate, kindly fashion.
The provider was exceptional at making sure people were at the centre of their care and treatment choices, and records confirmed people were at the forefront of everything the service did. The provider and staff consistently went the extra mile to ensure people achieved positive outcomes regarding their needs and preferences. We saw that the provider and staff were exceptionally responsive and compassionate in relation to end of life care, where people and their relatives wishes were paramount.
Personalised care was planned through discussions with people and their relatives. The service worked effectively with external agencies and professionals to ensure people’s needs were met in a planned and timely and compassionate manner.
Care plans were very clearly written and provided guidance for staff. They included examples of how people were supported to take part in day-to-day activities. Staff knew how to identify and respond to changes in people’s needs. Systems were in place to manage risks to people and provided staff with clear guidance on risk management.
The service had initiatives in place to promote and support people with their health and wellbeing and routinely monitored people’s care and treatment. Documentation around capacity was completed appropriately, and people’s rights in relation to consent were considered.
Staff understood their responsibility to report concerns about safety. There were enough safely recruited and trained staff to carry out safe care. The environment met people’s needs and staff managed the risk of infection. The home was clean and free from malodours.
Leaders were passionate about delivering high quality care. Regular meetings were held with staff, including supervision, handovers, and daily briefings. Staff consistently told us how they felt supported in their roles.
