During an assessment under our new approach
Alison House is a residential care home which is registered for accommodation for young people requiring personal or nursing care as well as the treatment of disease, disorder or injury. The service provides therapeutic psychological support and can accommodate up to 4 children and young people. At the time of our inspection there were 3 young people using the service. The assessment included a visit to the service by an inspector and an operations manager, and remote support from a children’s inspector and a medicines inspector.
At our assessment 27 and 28 June 2023, we rated the service requires improvement overall and inadequate in the key question well led. There were 4 breaches of the legal regulations which included concerns regarding safeguarding and consent practice. We served 2 Warning Notices in relation to safe care and treatment and good governance. We conducted an assessment 25 November to 2 December 2025 to follow up on the 2 Warning Notices and breaches of regulation, to check improvements had been made. We found at this assessment, the breaches of regulation and Warning Notices had been met, and improvements had been made.
At this assessment we looked at all 33 quality statements and provided the service with a new overall rating. People were protected and kept safe as staff understood and managed risks. Managers made sure staff received training and regular support to maintain good-quality care. People received their medicines as prescribed.
People were treated with kindness and compassion. Staff protected their privacy and dignity, treated them as individuals and supported their preferences. People had choice in their care and staff responded to people in a timely way. The provider supported staff well-being.
Leaders and staff had a shared vision and culture based on listening, learning and trust. Leaders were visible and knowledgeable, and supported staff to understand their roles and responsibilities. Audits were now effective in monitoring safety and risk in the service, and the provider was motivated to further strengthen governance arrangements during our inspection.
