Independence, choice and control

Staff promoted people’s independence, so people knew their rights and had choice and control over their own care, support and wellbeing. This helped enable people to remain in their own homes where possible.

The provider listened to and understood people’s individual needs, views and wishes. Staff responded to people’s needs in the moment and acted to minimise any discomfort, concern or distress. A social care professional told us, “The service and staff have also sought be as responsive as possible when working with my client.” A member of staff commented, “Despite many of the challenges we face as carer givers, the care and needs of the we support come first."

Workforce wellbeing and enablement

Score: 2

The provider did not always promote the wellbeing of their staff. As described in the Safe section of this report under ‘safe and effective staffing, the main contract the provider held for providing personal care was in the West Yorkshire area, despite most staff living in Greater Manchester. Consequently, there was high levels of dissatisfaction amongst staff. We spoke at length with the provider about these issues. It was evident the recruitment model previously adopted by the provider when first setting up the service was not one that could be sustained.
