Our view of the service
Date of Assessment: 6 March 2025 to 17 March 2025. This assessment was carried out in response to CQC receiving information of concern. The service is a nursing home providing accommodation and nursing and personal care to older people, younger adults, those living with physical disabilities, and those living with dementia. There were insufficient staff to support people effectively. People were not consistently given choices about their care and support and care plans and risk assessments were not always followed. Medicines were not consistently stored safely, and governance systems were not always effective in identifying concerns and making improvements. There were missed opportunities for learning and the providers culture was not always followed by all staff. However, people were safeguarded from abuse and were supported by suitably recruited staff. Medicines were administered safely. Assessments using evidence-based tools were in place and staff sought peoples consent to provide care. People’s health needs were met, and they had their protected characteristics considered. People were given information in their preferred format and plans for the future were considered. The provider ensured staff were treated equitably and worked in partnership with other agencies to deliver people’s care. The provider was in breach of the legal regulations relating to staffing and governance systems. We have asked the provider for an action plan in response to the concerns found at this assessment.
People's experience of this service
We received mixed views about staffing levels at the home with some relatives feeling there were times when there were not enough staff available to support people at the times they needed it. However, people felt safe living at the service and felt they received the support they needed from staff who knew them well. People told us they were happy with the environment and their needs including health needs were met by staff. People and their relatives told us they felt involved in their care and listened to by the staff and management of the service.
