Our current view of the service

Date of assessment: 29 July 2025 to 11 August 2025. We completed this comprehensive assessment to look at how Larchmere House Nursing Home assessed and planned for people's care needs, how they trained and supervised staff to support people according to their needs and preferences. Larchmere House Nursing Home is a residential care home providing accommodation for persons who require nursing and personal care for up to 33 people. The service is registered to provide support to older people, and people living with dementia. There were 28 people living at the service, some of whom had complex health needs. We identified breaches of regulations relating to medicines management and risk management, there had been a lack of clinical and management oversight of constipation risks because systems had not been embedded to review bowel charts for people who suffered with constipation. We also identified breaches of regulations in relation to staff training and governance at the service. Staff were recruited safely. Staff treated people with kindness and knew people well. Staff spent time with people encouraging them to participate in activities and maintain important relationships with their families and friends. Relatives felt involved and told us communication was good. The service appeared clean and tidy, and people’s rooms were personalised. Staff received welfare and support packages to support them in their lives.

We carried out a short observational framework for inspection (SOFI) and observed staff engaging with people in a kind and patient way. SOFI is a way of observing care to help us understand the experience of people who could not talk with us. We observed kind and caring interactions between staff and people. The service had a lovely atmosphere and there was plenty of laughter. People were engaged in various activities and told us they had enough to do to keep them active and stimulated.
People told us they felt well looked after and enjoyed living at Larchmere House Nursing Home. Comments included, “It is beautiful here, I have never been so happy, I love it, the staff are all good, they cannot do enough for you”; “It is good here, I am sure I am well looked after, I would recommend them”; “I would recommend them I have got a lovely room, I get good food”; “I feel respected, staff are lovely” and “They treat you like a human.”
Relatives told us, “Absolutely I would recommend them, they are a very friendly and caring home and do their upmost for them. They are brilliant, here I know she is safe”; “Family is happy with her care, they include us in family things, everyone knows you and staff update me. They are a little family, we get invited on the trips”; “They know care, exceptional staff, meeting everybody’s individual needs, respectful and kind, great communication” and “I can sleep at night and now feel I can go away for a few days. It feels homely and friendly."
