We looked for evidence that the service involved people and treated them with compassion, kindness, dignity and respect.

Kindness, compassion and dignity

The service treated people with kindness, empathy and compassion and respected their privacy and dignity.

There were arrangements to promote people’s privacy. Conversations could not be overheard outside the treatment room.

People considered the staff were friendly and welcoming, and ensured their comfort during procedures. People said staff went above and beyond to help them. For example, staff helped a person using the service to find their hearing aids after they had lost them on their way to their appointment.

Treating people as individuals

The service treated people as individuals and made sure people’s care, support and treatment met people’s needs and preferences.

People’s communication needs were met to enable them to be fully involved in their care.

Independence, choice and control

Score: 3

The service promoted people’s independence, so people knew their rights and had choice and control over their own care, treatment and wellbeing.

The service gave people clear information to help them make informed choices. The information included details of the procedure offered, potential risks and complications, and information on fees.

Responding to people’s immediate needs

The service listened to and understood people’s needs, views and wishes. Staff responded to people’s needs in the moment and acted to minimise any discomfort, concern or distress.

The service’s appointment system was flexible to people’s needs and short notice appointments could be arranged if necessary and appropriate. Feedback from people who used the service included that staff were attentive to their immediate needs and comfort.

Workforce wellbeing and enablement

The service cared about and promoted the wellbeing of their staff and supported and enabled staff to always deliver person-centred care.

Staff had the necessary resources and facilities for safe working, such as regular breaks and rest areas. Staff reported supporting each other when needed and time was taken for reflecting on practice.
