Date of assessment 12 May to 1 July 2026. Chilmington House is a residential care home providing care to people with a learning disabilityand autistic people which can accommodate up to 7 people. At the time of our inspection, 7 people were living at the home.
At our last assessment we rated this service as good. At this assessment the rating has remained good.
We assessed the service against ‘Right support, right care, right culture’ guidance to make judgements about whether the provider guaranteed people with a learning disability and autistic people respect, equality, dignity, choice. The provider was working in line with this guidance.
Following people’s admission to the service, staff used various assessment tools and worked with healthcare professionals to ensure people received appropriate treatment. Care plans were developed in consultation with people and/or their relatives.
However, we identified several areas requiring improvement, including cleanliness, auditing and the quality of documentation relating to people’s capacity assessments and best‑interest decision‑making processes.
People were supported with their medicines in line with prescription guidelines, although some ‘as required’ (PRN) medicines were not clearly prescribed or documented. Also, systems to ensure medicines were not overstocked were not effective. Staff were aware of risks to people’s safety and well-being and took steps to keep them safe. There were enough staff to ensure people’s safety and meet their needs. Staff knew people well and supported people according to their preferences and choices.
People were well supported and staff had worked with them to find out their likes and dislikes.
Following our assessment, the registered manager confirmed that improvements had been made.
