During an assessment under our new approach
Date of Assessment: 9 December 2025 to 9 January 2026. The service is a residential care home providing support to older people including people living with dementia. We carried out this assessment due to concerns we had received in relation to people’s care and treatment.
There was an effective system in place for recording and monitoring accidents and incidents and safeguarding concerns were shared with the local authority when required. Our observations found the home clean and hygienic throughout. The provider made sure medicines and treatments were safe and met people’s needs. Staff worked alongside external health professionals to help achieve good outcomes for people.
The provider made sure there were enough qualified, skilled and experienced staff to safely support people. Staff were responsive to people’s requests for help. Staff told us they felt valued and supported in their roles.
Care plans were detailed and focussed on people’s personal likes, preferences as well as their physical care and support needs. People were treated with kindness. Staff spoke with compassion for the people they cared for, and we observed several kind interactions which showed staff had formed close bonds with people. A wide range of activities were on offer to meet peoples social, cultural and religious needs.
People received a responsive and person-centred service. Processes were in place to gather feedback from people, relatives and staff and the provider understood the importance of using this feedback to improve.
The home manager demonstrated a commitment to continuous improvement. They were able to demonstrate their areas of focus and what action they were taking to improve the service. The provider maintained good oversight of all areas of care provision and attended the home regularly to complete quality checks.
However, we found some inconsistencies in records relating to the management of people’s individual risks. We identified some gaps in the provider’s governance audits which meant not all issues we found in the environment were identified. We found no evidence of harm. However, further improvement was required to strengthen auditing tools to ensure these were proactive in identifying risk going forward. The provider was responsive to our feedback and updated care plans and made changes to governance systems before the end of the assessment process to improve the overall quality and safety of the service.
At the last assessment, the provider was in breach of the legal regulations in relation to safe care and treatment and good governance. Enough improvements were found at this assessment, and the provider is no longer in breach of these regulations.
