During a routine inspection

We spoke to all five people who used the service. They informed us that they were well cared for and staff had treated them with respect and dignity. They said they had lived in the home for several years and they had been consulted regarding the running of the home. One person said, 'I am happy here. We have meetings each month. I get the food I want'.

Another said, 'The staff treat us well. They respect our privacy and knock on the door before coming in'.

We observed that staff were friendly and attentive towards people. Staff we spoke with were aware that all people should be treated with respect regardless of their diverse background. The home had a policy for ensuring equality and valuing diversity. The manager stated that arrangements had been put in place to support people with their religious and cultural observances. This was confirmed by people. They also informed us that they could have special meals they liked and attend their chosen places of worship.

Meetings had been organised for people who used the service to enable them to express their views and make suggestions. A suggestion box was also available in the kitchen. People confirmed that they could make choices regarding the meals provided and activities organised.

Staff we spoke with were aware of the likes and dislikes of people who used the service and people's preferences were recorded in their care records.

The home had a brochure which provided general information regarding its services and staff employed. It also included the complaints procedure.

During a routine inspection

We spoke with two people who use the service. They both told us they were happy living in the home and felt supported by staff. People told us that they were offered choices, for example, in relation to the meals prepared by staff. Most people took part in independent activities in the community. Those who needed more help to live independent lives received the support they needed.

People's records were accurate and contained detailed information that helped staff provide the support people needed. Care and support was provided to people according to their preferences.

During a routine inspection

We spoke to some of the people who used the service and everyone told us they were happy living in the home. For example, one person said, 'this is a nice care home. I'm happy here'. They told us they were treated well by staff and their privacy and dignity were respected. One person told us that staff were 'all very good' and another said that 'staff are always there for you'. People told us they were able to choose what they did everyday and were able to go out whenever they wanted to. There was plenty for them to do and they sometimes helped out with the running of the home. People said they liked the food and said, 'there's always a choice'.
