All Inspections

5 February 2014

During a routine inspection

As part of this inspection we spoke to two members of care staff and four people who live at the home. We also met and spoke to the registered providers, one of whom is also the registered manager. During our visit to the home we met a visiting entertainer and two visiting professionals. After the visit we spoke to two relatives on the telephone and received an email from a third.

The people we spoke to said they liked living at the home. One said 'You couldn't do better' and another said 'It's five star'.

All the comments from visitors and relatives were positive. One relative said 'It's a very personal service' and 'They take a great deal of care on an individual basis'.

Care plans reflected people's individual needs and preferences. We observed people interacting with staff and being offered choices about how to spend their time. There was a relaxed and friendly rapport between staff and people using the service. Staff were respectful and caring and knowledgeable about people's individual needs.

The home had a recruitment policy that included the involvement and views of the people living in the home.

The home had suitable processes in place to monitor the quality of the service.

5 March 2013

During a routine inspection

During our visit, there were eleven people living in the home. People that we spoke with told us they were happy with the care and support being provided.

Comments included. 'Staff are very nice, very helpful, the food is good and we have activities every morning and afternoon.'

There were care plans in place that included people's individual needs and wishes. The plans also contained clear information regarding staff supporting people's emotional wellbeing.

In order to meet people's individual needs, the home's staff worked with a variety of healthcare professionals including district nurses and mental health teams. We saw that people also had access to specialist care when required.

We spoke to staff and reviewed records which showed us that people were protected from abuse and their care was planned and delivered in a safe manner. This included appropriate arrangement to manage people's medication.

Evidence we saw showed us that people were supported by a caring, experienced staff team. The staff team were well supported and trained.

People had their social needs assessed and had access to a range of activities.

A person who visited the home regularly told us. 'I work in a lot of homes, this one is always friendly and you can always find a staff member about.'

People said they received the care they needed in the way that they wanted it to be provided. People told us staff responded promptly and helped them to resolve any problems they had. One person commented that they 'feel very well cared for'. Another person said the home met their social needs as well as their care needs. People said they were able to see their GP or attend other health services when they needed to.

People said they felt safe in the home and were confident that staff would respond appropriately to any concerns they raised.

People told us the manager regularly asked them how things were and whether they had any concerns. People said the providers are in the home each day and resolve any problems or concerns as they occur.
