Our view of the service
5 February 2026
We carried out this assessment due to the length of time since the last inspection and conducted a comprehensive assessment of surgical services.
Infection risks were not always assessed, managed or mitigated effectively, which created potential risks to people’s safety. Systems used to identify, monitor and manage risks were not consistently applied or fully effective. In addition, inspection ratings had not been displayed in line with regulatory expectations.
Despite these concerns, the service provided good care and treatment. Staff worked in a positive and open culture where safety was valued, and they felt confident to raise concerns, report incidents and learn from mistakes. People’s needs were assessed regularly, and care was planned in partnership with them, using national guidance and evidence‑based practice. Staff worked well together and shared information effectively to support continuity of care when people moved between services.
People were treated with kindness, compassion and respect. Staff protected privacy and dignity, tailored care to individual needs, and listened to concerns, taking action to reduce distress. The service was responsive, offering flexible support and helping people access care when needed. Leaders promoted a culture of openness and improvement, supported staff wellbeing, and worked with partners to oversee care and encourage learning across the service.
We rated the service as good. We found 1 breach of the regulations in relation to governance. Some systems and processes could put people at risk of infection. Governance systems and audits were not effective in identifying or addressing areas for improvement.
