During an inspection looking at part of the service

People were supported in promoting their independence. They told us that choice was offered and restrictions in relation to smoking had been agreed with them and they commented, 'I have 15 cigarettes a day and hand them back in to staff at night', 'Yes I'm happy with this' and 'I get two cigs an hour and I like it that way.'

People also told us they could choose when they went out, times for rising and retiring to bed. Some comments included, 'I decide when I go out and when I go to bed', 'Sometimes I get up too early and the staff talk to me about this.'

People who used the service told us they were happy with the level of care and support they received.

We spoke with a relative who told us the home was, 'Very good, I am happy with the care', 'It is always clean and the food is lovely', 'The staff always make me feel welcome and I have my lunch too' and 'I have no complaints, but if I did I would go to the manager.'

People who used the service told us, 'I feel safe here' and 'The staff take good care of us.'

People who used the service told us that staff were approachable, kind and supportive.

We spoke with a relative and they told us staff made them welcome, passed on information and liaised with them on a regular basis, 'It's very good and I am happy with the care provided' and 'The staff make me feel really welcome.'

People told us their views and concerns were listened to and that a residents meeting had taken place which they were able to discuss any issues. Some people also said they had been involved in developing their new care plan.

Some people using the service said they had been involved in developing their new person centred plan and commented, 'Yes I have done this with my key worker and I enjoyed doing it.'

During a routine inspection

People told us they enjoyed living at Ebor Lodge, also that the staff were kind and helpful and they could make some choices. People said, 'Yes I like it here', 'I love my room' and 'This is the best one I have been in'.

People told us the food was varied and choice was offered.

People told us they felt 'safe' in the home and any problems were dealt with by the manager.

People told us that their views and concerns were listened to, 'Yes I know who to complain to' and 'The staff and manager do listen to us'.
