Effective – this means we looked for evidence that people’s care, treatment and support achieved good outcomes and promoted a good quality of life, based on best available evidence. At our last assessment we rated this key question good. At this assessment the rating has remained good. This meant people’s outcomes were consistently good, and people’s feedback confirmed this.

The provider made sure people’s care was effective by assessing and reviewing their health, care, wellbeing and communication needs with them. Comprehensive assessments were undertaken prior to people moving into the service. This included identifying their care and support needs to ensure the service was able to support them appropriately. The provider was conscious that it was a small family home, and they wanted to make sure that people that lived there would enjoy living together, and they took this into account when assessing any new clients.

The provider told people about their rights around consent and respected these when delivering person-centred care. Staff adhered to the Mental Capacity Act 2005. They involved people as much as possible in decisions about their care. Where people did not have the capacity to consent, staff liaised with health and social care professionals and people’s relatives to make best interests decisions on the person’s behalf.
