Background to this inspection

Updated 20 October 2022

SAS Aesthetics London is an independent provider of medical services. The service provides a broad range of aesthetic services that are not regulated by the Care Quality Commission (CQC), but some services that are, including thread lifts. This report references only those services that are regulated by CQC.

SAS Aesthetics London is based at 7 Harley Street, London W1G 9QD, in the London borough of Westminster. The service is for private fee-paying patients only, the service does not see NHS patients.

The provider is registered with the CQC to deliver the regulated activity of surgical procedures.

The provider provides services to patients both from London and more widely to patients from around the United Kingdom and from abroad. The service is self-contained within a single premises, with all patients checking in at reception. The service has two clinical rooms, but regulated CQC activities take place in only one clinical room at the service.

The service operates on Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays from 10am until 7pm. The service may be contacted by telephone to make new appointments outside of these hours, but does not formally provide a clinical out of hours service outside of these times. Thread lifts at the service are conducted by the lead clinician. The service employs one member of administrative staff to support the clinician.

To get to the heart of patients’ experiences of care and treatment, we always ask the following five questions:

  • Is it safe?
  • Is it effective?
  • Is it caring?
  • Is it responsive to people’s needs?
  • Is it well-led?

These questions therefore formed the framework for the areas we looked at during the inspection.

We carried out an announced comprehensive inspection of SAS Aesthetics London on 22 September 2022. This was the first CQC inspection of this location under the current CQC inspection methodology.

The registered manager is the Director of the company, who is also the lead clinician. A registered manager is a person who is registered with the Care Quality Commission to manage the service. Like registered providers, they are ‘registered persons’. Registered persons have legal responsibility for meeting the requirements in the Health and Social Care Act 2008 and associated Regulations about how the service is run.

Our key findings were:

  • The service provided care in a way that kept patients safe and protected them from avoidable harm.
  • Patients received effective care and treatment that met their needs.
  • Staff dealt with patients with kindness and respect and involved them in decisions about their care.
  • The service organised and delivered services to meet patients’ needs. Patients could access care and treatment in a timely way.
  • The way the service was led and managed promoted the delivery of high-quality, person-centre care.

The service should:

  • Review training requirements for non-clinical staff.
  • Implement a quality improvement plan to review and improve patient outcomes.
