Our view of the service

We carried out this assessment between 15 April to 30 April 2026. Larchwood nursing and residential home is a care home providing accommodation for people requiring nursing or personal care. The service supports people over or under 65 years of age, people with dementia and physical disabilities. The service supports up to 48 people.

We carried out our assessment due to the age of the service rating and concerns we had received.

At our inspection the provider was in breach of the legal regulation relating to safe care and treatment.

For example, outside decorative lights received an internal electricity source via an extension lead through an open window, a barbeque gas cylinder was not stored safely, there was variable use of stair gates or retractable barriers on stairs without a risk assessment in place, poor infection control and some people were not being repositioned in line with required time regime and care plans did not always reflect people’s needs.

Larchwood nursing and residential home had a caring staff team with the right skills and knowledge to support people effectively. Staff received training and regular supervisions to maintain quality care. The service worked in partnership with other organisations including health and community groups to meet people’s needs.

Staff told us that they were supported by the registered manager, who was approachable and understood their responsibilities.

The provider was committed to improvement, and the service was undergoing environmental changes to enhance the environment and increase storage.

The registered manager was proactive with concerns we raised and actioned them during our inspection.
