Our view of the service

Date of Assessment: 26 March 2025 to 14 April 2025.

We undertook this inspection due to concerns about the environment, infection control processes, staffing and leadership. We found a breach of the legal regulations in relation to governance and record keeping. Governance systems and audits were not effective in identifying or addressing areas for improvement. Records were not always in place or sufficiently detailed to provide effective guidance for staff.

A new manager had been in post for approximately 2 weeks at the time of our inspection. People and staff were positive about their capability and approach. The manager recognised the shortfalls in the service and had plans to improve. However, time was needed to implement and sustain these.

A partner agency had completed an audit of the environment and infection control processes and had identified areas of improvement. The provider had begun work to address these issues at the time of our inspection.

We received mixed views about staffing levels. The manager had begun work to recruit more staff and told us they would continuously review staffing levels to ensure safety. Staff were competent and were recruited safely.

Care and medicines records needed improvements, but staff knew people well. People and relatives told us risks and medicines were safely managed.

Staff supported people to access healthcare when needed, and professionals external to the service were positive about their joint working. Improvement was needed to ensure people’s outcomes were monitored effectively. People told us they enjoyed the food and had enough to eat and drink.

People were cared for by kind and compassionate staff. Staff treated people as individuals and supported them in a person-centred way. The service was easy to access and worked to prevent discrimination. People received fair and equal care and treatment.

People and staff described an open and positive culture. Staff felt valued and enjoyed working at Bayith Rest Home.

People's experience of this service

People and their relatives were positive about the home and the care people received. Comments from people included, “It’s all tickety-boo, I like it here. We’re all like 1 big family. Staff are lovely.” and “I like it here because there’s always someone here. We laugh a lot and have jokes. The best thing is I’m just happy.” Relative’s comments included, “It's a weight off our minds that she [person] is there. The love they [staff] show her is amazing.”, “The staff are amazing. The way they interact with the resident's and us. They [people] are really well looked after. We looked at lots of homes for Mum and this was the only one that felt like a home.” and “The staff are fantastic; I couldn’t wish for her to be in a better place.”
