Our view of the service
Date of assessment: 6 to 15 May 2026. Graeme House is a supported living service providing support for people with a learning disability and autistic people who live in their own homes.
We have assessed the service against ‘Right support, right care, right culture’ guidance to make judgments about whether the provider guaranteed people with a learning disability and autistic people respect, equality, dignity, choices, independence and good access to local communities that most people take for granted.
A learning culture was embedded in the service which supported service improvements. Transitions, risk management and safeguarding were person-centred, well-coordinated and promoted safety, independence and rights. Staff were well-trained, safely recruited and knowledgeable, with sufficient staffing levels and effective oversight in place. Systems for medicines, infection prevention and environmental safety were consistently well managed, ensuring people felt safe and received reliable, high-quality support.
Assessments were thorough, regularly reviewed and used to deliver person-centred, effective support. Staff worked collaboratively, followed best practice guidance and maintained strong communication with professionals and relatives. People’s health,nutrition and outcomes were well managed, with support promoting involvement,choice and informed decision-making.
Support was consistently person-centred, flexible and responsive, with people and relatives actively involved in planning and reviewing care. Staff adapted approaches to meet individual needs, promoted equality and inclusion, and ensured people’s voices were heard, with concerns addressed promptly and effectively.
The service was well-led, with a clear vision and values embedded in practice, supported by approachable and knowledgeable managers. Strong governance, open culture and effective partnership working drove continuous improvement, ensuring inclusive support and positive outcomes for people.
People's experience of this service
Overall, people and their relatives felt supported, valued and listened to. When we visited people at their home they told us they felt safe and well supported. The atmosphere was welcoming,warm and friendly. People showed us around their home and told us about how they were involved in various aspects of daily living such as cooking, cleaning, laundry and gardening. People described positive experiences and were actively involved in a wide range of social activities and opportunities, including employment.
People appeared relaxed and comfortable around staff, seeking support when needed and receiving it in a respectful and timely way. Staff were consistently calm,responsive and treated people as equals, promoting choice, independence and control in daily life.
Relatives spoke very positively about the service, expressing confidence in the support provided. One relative told us, “It’s stunning, I could never imagine it being so good, but it is.” They said communication was strong and they were kept well informed about their loved one’s support, with opportunities to be involved in support where appropriate.
