All Inspections

29 May and 11 June 2014

During a routine inspection

An adult social care inspector carried out this inspection. The focus of the inspection was to answer five key questions; is the service safe, effective, caring, responsive and well-led.

At the time of our inspection, the service was providing personal care to one person. As part of our visits to the service we spoke with the registered manager (who was also the provider), two staff and one relative. We were unable to speak to the person who used the service.

We reviewed records relating to the management of the care agency which included, the support plan, policies and daily records.

Below is a summary of what we found. The summary describes what people who used the service, the relative and the staff told us, what we observed and the records we looked at.

Is the service safe?

We saw that the relative of the person who used the service had consented to their care and support and that their wishes had been included as part of their support plan.

Risk assessments were in place to provide information to staff to help minimise any identified risks. This included an environmental risk assessment at the person's home.

We saw that the provider had carried out the necessary checks which ensured they employed suitable staff.

Is the service effective?

We saw that the person and their relative were involved in developing the support plan. The support plan was written in a person-centred way.

We saw that the support plan was reviewed and that staff completed monthly summaries to show what care and support had been provided to the person.

The provider was able to demonstrate to us that they worked closely with other health care professionals or agencies to ensure they met the person's needs.

Is the service caring?

The relative that we spoke with told us, 'They have brought X on so far. Can't fault the staff, they are good at their jobs.'

Is the service responsive?

Records showed us that the person who used the service had been able to indicate their preferences, likes and dislikes and they had access to activities that were important to them. We saw that various health care professionals were involved in the person's care.

Is the service well-led?

We saw that staff had the opportunity to meet regularly with the provider and that a staff forum had been set up.

Staff told us they had regular supervisions and access to training. We confirmed this by looking at the files.
