Our current view of the service

Good

Updated 5 June 2026

Date of assessment 20 July to 24 July 2026. The assessment was conducted to review the progress of the provider from the previous assessment completed in March 2025. This assessment was comprehensive and included a review of the ratings for all key questions. Ambleside is a residential care home providing support to up to 60 younger and older people including those living with a cognitive impairment or physical disability. There were 52 people living at the home at the time of our assessment. Ambleside has 2 registered providers meaning both legal entities are responsible for this service.

At our last assessment we found 1 breach of regulations. This was in relation to person centred care. At this assessment we found improvements and the provider was no longer in breach of regulations. The provider had a quality assurance system, but improvements were still needed to ensure, they identified the improvements themselves to drive and maintain expected standards. It was evident from people, relatives and staff feedback, the current manager had made positive improvements to the quality of care and there was an improved culture at the home. Staff now felt supported and confident to approach management if they needed help or guidance. All staff told us they worked closer as a team, meaning people received better care outcomes.

There were enough staff, who had been recruited safely, to support and meet people’s needs. Staff told us they received training that helped keep their practice updated. People received their medicines from trained staff, but some improvements were needed to ensure staff continued to administer some medicines safely. Following our visit, the manager confirmed they had sought advice to improvement the management of some medicines.

Staff understood the importance of seeking people’s consent, maintaining people’s privacy and dignity and providing care at people’s individual pace. Staff promoted people’s independence and choice. There was a varied and inclusive activities programme that enabled people to do the things they wanted, and staff supported people to do this.
