Caring – this means we looked for evidence that the provider involved people and treated them with compassion, kindness, dignity and respect. At our last assessment we rated this key question good. At this assessment the rating has remained good. This meant people were supported and treated with dignity and respect; and involved as partners in their care.

Independence, choice and control
The provider promoted people’s independence, so people knew their rights and had choice and control over their own care, treatment and wellbeing. Staff encouraged people to make day to day choices and do as much as they could for themselves. Areas of independence were clearly documented in peoples care plans. One person told us, “Staff support me with everything. For example, getting a shower, cooking, money, shopping. I have learnt to do all my bedding, and I can make my own breakfast.”
People were supported to maintain important relationships. One person told us they were regularly supported to maintain relationships with their family and said, “I have also made friends, and we meet for lunch.” One family member described staff as, “Very kind and respectful” adding “They genuinely care.” They described how staff would always offer to support in ways they felt went “above and beyond” which had included decorating a person’s home for their birthday, adding “Staff couldn’t have done better.”
