We carried out this assessment on 9 July 2024 and the assessment continued to 15 September 2024 (prior to a request from See Your Baby request to deregister their service), in response to the Care Quality Commission (CQC) receiving information of concern, in respect of potential regulatory breaches at See Your Baby. See Your Baby is registered as an independent ultrasound scanning service in maternity and midwifery and diagnostic scanning services.

Services provided by See Your Baby include early pregnancy scans, emergency and reassurance scans, fetal gender scans, 4th dimension (4D scans) bonding scans, 3rd dimension (3D) scans, 2nd dimension (2D) scans, pregnancy scans and pregnancy blood tests, fetal well-being and growth scans, non-invasive testing and selling commercial memory making items.

We looked at a range of quality statements in the key questions, safe effective, caring, responsive, and well-led. During our assessment we identified areas for improvement which resulted in breaches of regulation 12: safe care and treatment, regulation 13: safeguarding, regulation 17: good governance and regulation 18: staffing. We found there were not sufficient numbers of suitably qualified, competent, skilled and experienced persons deployed in order to meet the requirements the service. Service shortfalls included the management and oversight of risk in some areas. For example, staff training and recruitment records, emergency procedures and policies, audits and governance at See Your Baby.

During the on-site assessment, we spoke with 6 patient, birthing people and families all of whom provided positive feedback on the See Your Baby service, quoting they felt it was a caring environment, their own individualised needs were being met and they felt staff really cared, going above and beyond. Some people we spoke with told us that they had previously used the service in previous pregnancies with a great experience. Patients told us appointments were easy to book, and sometimes they were able to attend the same day for reassurance scans.

People told us they had a positive experience attending the service. In the 12 months prior to the assessment there had been 27 positive reviews reported on social media for the services.
