Online primary care inspection programme

Categories:

  • Remote clinical advice

There has been a rapid expansion in the number of online primary care providers.

An online service must be registered with us if they aim to prevent, diagnose, or treat disease and follow up patients’ treatment.

In response to safety concerns, we brought forward a specific programme to inspect all registered online primary care providers. We carried out the inspections between November 2016 and August 2017.

We have worked with other key organisations as we inspect online services. We have jointly publicised what we found so far:

  • guidance for the public when choosing online healthcare
  • letter to all registered providers to set out key themes
  • media activity to highlight issues of concern.

We will formally report on our findings and continue to inspect online providers.
