Online primary care inspection programme

  • Public,
  • Remote clinical advice

There has been a rapid expansion in the number of online primary care providers.

An online service must be registered with us if they aim to prevent, diagnose, or treat disease and follow up patients’ treatment.

In response to safety concerns, we brought forward a specific programme to inspect all registered online primary care providers. We carried out the inspections between November 2016 and August 2017. Our report, the state of care in independent online primary health services, presents our findings from these inspections.

We have worked with other key organisations and jointly publicised:

  • guidance for the public when choosing online healthcare
  • letter to all registered providers to set out key themes
  • media activity to highlight issues of concern.
