Our view of the service
During this assessment in July 2024, we visited both sites, at Mill Lodge and Red Kite View. We spoke with young people using the service, staff and managers, and we looked at records including care plans, policies and procedures. We found breaches of regulation in three key question areas; safe, caring and well led due to concerns identified at Red Kite View. We found several medicines management concerns at Red Kite View. At Red Kite View staff used a room to provide nasogastric feeding which was visible from a public walkway. This meant that young people's privacy and dignity was not always protected. The services also had low mandatory training compliance across a range of modules. Nevertheless, there was an honest, open culture. Staff understood young people’s needs. Care plans were detailed, and risks were identified and well managed. Young people were able to make choices and decisions based on the information staff gave them, and staff worked with them to plan their care and treatment.
People's experience of this service
We spoke with nine young people who were using the service, their families and carers. This included 5 patients at Red Kite View and 4 patients at Mill Lodge. They said they felt safe and supported, and that staff treated them kindly and with compassion. They were involved in planning their own care. They also had opportunities to be involved in decisions about the service.
