Our view of the service
We carried out this assessment to determine if improvements had been made following our previous assessment in 2019. We assessed 25 quality statements for the 5 key questions: safe, effective, caring, responsive and well-led.
Cheltenham General Hospital (CGH) provides a range of NHS hospital services and is operated by Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. The trust operates two emergency departments, the other being at Gloucestershire Royal Hospital (GRH). The two hospitals share a divisional management team. Gloucestershire Royal Hospital emergency department (ED) was assessed separately.
This assessment looked at the ED which was rated good at our last assessment. At this assessment the rating remains good.
The rating for ED has been combined with ratings of the other services from the last assessments and the overall rating of CGH remains requires improvement. See our previous reports for a full picture of all other services at CGH.
