Our view of the service
We undertook an assessment of Castle Vale Renal Unit on 28 April 2025.
The service delivers haemodialysis for approximately 175 people and had provided 22,734 dialysis sessions between March 2024 and April 2025. The service provides morning and afternoon dialysis sessions 6 days a week, with an additional 3 twilight sessions each week. There were 36 dialysis bays on the unit.
In addition, there was a home haemodialysis service where 29 people were supported to undertake their own dialysis at home.
We carried out the on-site assessment on 28 April 2025. The assessment was undertaken as this service had not been inspected before. We rated Castle Vale Renal Unit as good overall and in safe, effective, responsive and well led. We rated them outstanding in caring.
People's experience of this service
People and any family or carers with them were all positive about the staff treating them with warmth and kindness and providing effective care and treatment. They said staff were approachable and nothing was too much trouble for them. People described the service as feeling like a family with good emotional and practical support.
Records showed people's care and treatment was reviewed regularly. People felt staff were on hand if they needed them for help or support. People said they felt able to raise concerns.
