Surgery services are provided by University Hospitals Plymouth (UHP) NHS Trust at the Derriford Hospital location. UHP is a teaching hospital in partnership with the University of Plymouth and working with Plymouth Marjon University. It is the largest specialist teaching hospital in the South West peninsula and the region's major trauma centre.
In our assessment of surgery services we found people were kept safe and protected from avoidable harm. There were effective processes to monitor the quality and safety of the service and ensure people could access the service. The service had a positive culture with capable leaders. However, governance processes were not always robust and leaders did not always mitigate risks.
