Our view of the service

We carried out this inspection as part of our winter pressures assessment; it had last been inspected in August 2018.

We assessed most quality statements across the safe, effective, caring, responsive and well-led key questions and have combined the scores for these areas to give an overall rating.

We identified a breach of the regulation due to lack of patients monitoring and observation following administration of sedation medication.

People's experience of this service

Patients and family or carers with them were positive about the staff. They said staff treated them with warmth and kindness and provided effective care and treatment. We spoke with 20 patients and relatives who told us they did not feel anxious about raising concerns. They said they were seen quickly and told us they felt cared for, listened to, and fully informed of the treatment options. They felt staff were available if they needed them for help or support

We reviewed 17 sets of records that showed patients were seen promptly, and information was documented about care treatment and risk assessment from nursing, medical and allied professional staff.

Staff worked collaboratively with patients assessing risk and developing personalised care and treatment approaches. Patients experienced a non-judgmental approach to their care and were treated in an inclusive and equitable manner.
