Our view of the service

Chesterfield Royal Hospital NHS Foundation Trust (CRHFT) is an acute provider of hospital and community healthcare services for more than 400,000 people across Derbyshire. The trust employs more than 5,000 staff across Chesterfield Royal Hospital, Royal Primary Care and Derbyshire Support and Facilities Services (DSFS), supported by a team of volunteers.

Chesterfield Royal Hospital has a range of services including a 24-hour emergency department, an urgent treatment centre, specialist children's services including child and adolescent mental health services (CAMHS), inpatient and outpatient care, diagnostics, therapies, day-case treatments and inpatient surgery.

The hospital has approximately 500 inpatient beds, excluding maternity services, and 29 day-case treatment chairs. Chesterfield Royal Hospital was last rated good, with the report published in July 2024 following an inspection under the Care Quality Commission's single assessment framework (SAF). The rating remained good at this inspection. We carried out an inspection of medical care (including older people's care) on 2 and 3 June 2026.
