Caring
- The purpose of the assessment was to follow up on the warning notice served under Section 29A of the Health and Social Care Act 2008 which was issued to the service following our assessment in July 2024.
- We found improvements had been made in the majority of areas we reviewed. However, further work is required some areas and we will expect the service to provide us with quarterly action plans to demonstrate further improvements.
This service scored 70 (out of 100) for this area. Find out what we look at when we assess this area and How we calculate these scores.
Kindness, compassion and dignity
- During our previous assessment, we found staff did not always treat people with kindness. Some people we spoke with felt staff did not always listen to them or communicate with them in a way they could understand. They said their privacy and dignity was not always respected. Those who were being held in temporary areas of the department due to crowding said staff were doing their best to support them, but they waited a long time and did not always have someone to raise their concerns to because staff weren’t visible in the corridors a lot of the time. The corridor was narrow and there were no screens or curtains to protect the privacy and dignity of people.
- During our follow up assessment, we found staff were treating people with kindness, the department was still busy during this assessment but not as busy has it had been during our initial assessment. Staff told us they had more time to talk to patients and to spend with them. All the patients we spoke with told us the staff were kind and tried their best to protect their privacy. Curtains had been put up in the corridor to allow some patients to have privacy. However, when the corridor was busy not all patients were placed in an area with a curtain.
- The staffing in the corridor had increased, there was now a nurse stationed at both ends of the corridor who had a visual oversight of patients at all times. This was an improvement from the last assessment.
