There were often delays in patients accessing primary care appointments.

At the last assessment we found that the triage arrangements and access to appointments was not managed well. During this assessment we found there had been no improvement. Management had made changes to booking patient appointments to negate the need for a GP waiting list, however, this had not improved the outcome for patients. Records showed that patient appointments were regularly cancelled for a variety of reasons including a lack of available officer to escort the patient, as well as short staffing within healthcare or the patient recorded as not having attended. Some patients had several appointments cancelled over a period of weeks or months and had still not been seen by someone from healthcare at the time of assessment. Subsequent assurance was provided that these individual patients had been seen.
