Our view of the service

Date of assessment: 17 February 2025 to 4 March 2025. The Hamilton’s Residential Home is a residential care home supporting older people who may be living with dementia. We completed this assessment after we received concerns about the management of the service. We found the service had not improved since our last inspection. We found continued breaches of regulation relating to management of risk, medicines management and governance of the service. At this assessment there was also a new breach of regulation relating to staff skill and training. Staff continued to have very limited guidance to mitigate risks to people’s health and welfare. There were significant shortfalls in the management of infection control. Staff had not received the training they required to meet people’s needs. Environmental risks had not been managed and governance of the service continued to be poor. In instances where CQC have decided to take civil or criminal enforcement action against a provider, we will publish this information on our website after any representations and/ or appeals have been concluded. This service is being placed in special measures. The purpose of special measures is to ensure that services providing inadequate care make significant improvements. Special measures provide a framework within which we use our enforcement powers in response to inadequate care and provide a timeframe within which providers must improve the quality of the care they provide.

People's experience of this service

People told us they felt safe living at the service and the staff were kind and caring. However, the provider had not always managed potential risks to people’s health including plans and equipment to evacuate people in an emergency. People were not always protected from infection risks. This included communal chairs which were fabric and were not easy to clean and disinfect. People’s medicines were not managed safely. Staff had not always received training and supervision to make sure they had the skills to support people safely.
