Our view of the service

Date of Assessment: 10 September to 26 September 2025. The service is a care home with nursing which provides personal care to adults, some of whom were living with dementia or physical disabilities. At the time of our inspection 40 people lived at the service. We assessed and inspected the service due to the length of time since the last assessment. We carried out a comprehensive assessment and inspection of the service covering all 5 key questions and all quality statements. The service was previously rated good; at this inspection the service was rated good overall and outstanding in caring.

The service proactively worked with people and their families to understand people goals and wishes. Bespoke plans were in place to support people to work towards the things that were important to them. People’s achievements were celebrated within the service. Staff and leaders worked innovatively to promote people’s independence and actively monitored the impact of interventions.

People received safe care from staff who knew them well. Staff understood how to safeguard people from the risk of abuse and how to effectively report and learn from accidents and incidents. The home environment was clean, safe and well maintained. Staff were recruited safely with appropriate pre-employment checks taking place. Staff told us they enjoyed their jobs and felt supported in their roles. People’s care plans were personalised to them, ensuring that people received care that was bespoke to them. Leaders at the service actively sought feedback from staff, people and their relatives to help shape the service. The service was managed well, regular governance and auditing activities ensured that any problems were identified and addressed quickly.

People's experience of this service

The service supported a number of people who would struggle to verbalise their views of the service due to their needs. Observations undertaken within the service evidenced that staff knew the people they supported well, and an individualised approach to care took place. Staff understood people’s diverse communication methods and how to recognise quickly if a person was unhappy. People’s relatives were welcomed into the home environment and were fully involved in care planning and reviews. Relatives spoke positively about their experiences of the service. Relatives told us, “My relative is very happy here. We have always found it good, there is good communication if there are any problems” and “They are great with [relative] and I do feel they are safe, when I visit, they talk more to them (staff) than to me!”

Relatives commented on the quality of the food and said people enjoyed their food and had choices. Some relatives commented that they had been welcomed to stay for meals at the service when they were visiting. Relatives told us they were regularly asked for their views on the service, and they felt comfortable approaching staff and managers. Relatives told us that staff were friendly, kind and caring, and that they had confidence in their abilities.
