The service was caring. People had good relationships with staff who were kind and who treated them respectfully. People were able to make decisions about their care and were supported to be independent. We did not assess all the quality statements within this key question. We did not identify concerns relating to these areas which we judged as being met at our last inspection.

Kindness, compassion and dignity

We saw staff were respectful and caring in their approach. They addressed people using their preferred names and pronouns. They shared jokes with people and sat down to spend time with them. When people were sad or anxious, they offered comfort. Staff spoke about people fondly and knew them well. People were not rushed and were supported to make choices.

Staff knew people well and spoke about them with kindness and respect. They said they felt people received good care and there was a nice atmosphere between staff and the people being cared for. One member of staff told us, ''I feel the home is very caring and the residents always come first. I am happy working here.'' Another staff member explained, ''All the staff are compassionate, and the standard of care is good here.''

People told us they were treated with kindness. They had good relationships with staff. Comments from people and their relatives included, ''All the staff are lovely'', ''The carers and nurses have built up a rapport with [person] whilst offering support and care that allows [person] to be [themselves]'' and ''The carers are so lovely and well informed about [person's] needs.'' People told us they were asked about things that were important to them, including the gender of care workers who supported them.

People were supported to make choices about their care. They, and their families were consulted when care plans were created and assessed. People were offered choices by staff. Some of their comments included, ''Matron has meetings with us and asks our opinion'' and ''The staff always ask me and respect my opinion.'' People were supported to do things for themselves when they were able. There were a range of organised activities and opportunities for people to pursue individual hobbies and interests. Comments from people included, ''I like the music and you can do flower arranging and painting, there is a woman who comes in to do exercises'' and ''They are very jolly and I am happy here.'' A relative told us, ''The activities provided are excellent, there is a choice and [person] loves it.'' Another relative commented, ''They take [person] out for activities to places [they] enjoy going.''

We observed the staff supporting people to make choices. They gave them the information they needed to do this.

There were regular meetings for people living at the service and their families. These enabled them to learn about the service and contribute their views. The provider employed staff to plan and facilitate a range of different activities. People's care plans described the things they enjoyed doing and their known choices and interests.
